You may have read that BEHAVES is a CPD-accredited eLearning course.

But what does that actually mean? And more importantly, what does that mean for you?
Let’s take a look.
What is CPD accreditation?

CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development. It’s the term for ongoing activities that professionals undertake to keep existing skills sharp and to keep adding new skills throughout their careers.

When we talk about the BEHAVES Academy being CPD accredited, this means it’s certified by the CPD Certification Service which (in their own words):

“was established in 1996, and is the world’s leading and largest independent CPD accreditation institution operating across all industry sectors.”

They accredit content from some of the most respected organisations in the world, such as the University of Oxford, Mitsubishi Electric and UBS.

(And now, of course, the BEHAVES Academy).

What are CPD points, hours and credits?

The language used around CPD activity can vary. Some organisations talk about hours, others may use points or credits. But, generally speaking, these terms are all equal – so one ‘point’ or ‘credit’ is equal to one hour of learning.

These hours can be accrued from a mix of training courses, in-person events, workshops, self-guided learning, webinars and eLearning.

How much time should I aim for?

Many business, professional bodies and accreditation organisations set expected CPD targets for their members. This generally works as a minimum number of hours on an annual basis.

For instance, RICS expect members to complete members are expected to complete as much 40 hours a year, and for GPs it’s 50 hours each year. Your own professional bodies or workplace may have its own expected target too. And of course, many professionals are self motivated to learn, to build their skillset and advance their career in an easy-to-demonstrate way, which CPD can help with.

Does behavioural science matter to my profession?

Behavioural science is the study of what makes people think and act the way they do. This means that any profession that involves working with people (directly or indirectly) is likely to benefit from understanding the foundations of behavioural psychology.

This was a fundamental belief as we designed the BEHAVES Academy. We believe learning and development is important to all professionals, so we used a mix of examples, case studies, and real-world situations that open the insights to everyone. Whether that’s compliance professionals learning how to offer more compelling training or physicists learning to write better emails – the BEHAVES Academy can deliver a lot of direct value.

What BEHAVES being CPD-accredited

The CPD Certification Service says that “Accredited CPD training means the learning activity has reached the required Continuing Professional Development standards and benchmarks. The learning value has been scrutinised to ensure integrity and quality.”

So you can feel confident you’re getting a high-quality learning experience.

BEHAVES makes a substantial contribution to your hours

If you have required hours to complete each year, the BEHAVES Academy could contribute a lot of them.

The online portion alone takes most users around 3-5 hours to complete. Then with the additional recommended reading and potentially additional time from the free 42-page Handbook that covers more detail and additional insights, and you’ll be well on your way towards your target.

02

BEHAVES can be completed anywhere

The BEHAVES Academy is fully online – accessible from anywhere you have a suitable device and an internet connection.

That means you can complete all these hours from your own desk.

03

BEHAVES gives you a CPD-recognised certificate

After completing the BEHAVES Academy, you’ll be able to download your CPD-accredited certificate.

This can be a valuable resource to demonstrate your newfound skills – whether that’s sharing it with a manager, keeping it as part of our CPD record or even sharing it with your wider network on social media if you’d like to.

04

As personal development goes – it’s pretty fun!
